In this activity which has also been attended by foundations youngsters and 5 Bilgi University Psychology department students, who are on a field research, 26 Başak kids stated their ideas through the definitions of our volunteer Mehmet Ali, after they wrote down their information about Human Rights. They shared what they had been through and what they think about “Right to live, equality, freedom, right to think, right to travel, etc.” by questioning each other.

When it was about “Education Right”, all of them recalled some memories. Being poor, deprived and victims of forced migration as well as being in expectations though the fact that they are poorly educated, really encouraged them to talk more. Most of our Başak kids felt the disadvantages of crowded classrooms so deeply that they had to state this social injustice is against to the principle of “equality” in Human Rights.

In their writings, they talk about being a conscious individual, stating everybody’s common rights and centralizing human. They shared what they have been through about violence in family and school. Because most of them were afraid of either their parents or their teachers. Most of them meet violence at an early age because that fear brings up mistakes and mistakes cause punishment. Sad side of the story is that the violence is not only limited to our Başak kids. They told us that their mother are afraid of their husbands and even their husbands’ mothers.

Başak kids asked questions to students from Bilgi University and they showed their speech skills like an adult person. They listened carefully  to the evaluations and answers of students. At the end of the meeting, our volunteers performed a mini concert. They danced while listening to folk songs and celebrated this important day of human kind by dancing.

They wished a world without violence and wars for their next meeting. With the same wishes and feelings, we’d like to say goodbye.
